Bento #33 & #34

Bottom tier:
Egg noodles with sesame oil, soy sauce, black sesame seeds and chili flakes
Meatballs with teriyaki sauce and carrot hearts

Top tier:
Frozen corn (thaws by lunch!)
Snap peas
Strawberry
Apricot slices
Black Grapes

And the centerpiece is slightly different - we each get a hard boiled egg ...

The Mister gets a chick (the egg broke around the middle, otherwise it would have been a deviled egg):

Bento #33

Mine is Totoro! - cut a 'V' out of the top of the egg to make the ears, painted the egg with food colouring, used the leftover egg to make the eyes, black sesame seeds for the pupils and nose:

Here's a closeup of Totoro:

  1. Hi, Beth! I just spent the last hour reading every one of your posts from the inception of your blog! It was a pleasure to see how creative you are with the bentos and watching how they morphed in creativity.

I noticed you stopped blogging about your weightloss efforts, and I am curious how packing bentos has influenced your health these past few months. Although I have never had a migraine (thank God!) I am particularly interested in your remark about the correlation between diet/exercise and lack of migraine episodes.

Your bentos are an inspiration and I look forward to reading all about what's next. Congratulations on the home ownership! I remember the wonderful feeling when I had that first house key in my hand...

  2. Hi April - Wow! thanks so much :) I'm definitely still learning a lot about presentation, and I'm glad others appreciate my efforts!
I have kind of held back on posting about my weight loss at this time because of the medical condition I was diagnosed with - I'm currently on a medication that causes significant weight gain, so there's not much to report! I will let you know, the portion control was really helping a lot - I lost about 15 lbs total before everything happened. I think it's still helping now, just in a reduced way, because I know of other people on the same type of medication who have gained a lot more weight than I have.
I'm really not sure if the diet and exercise is what reduced the frequency of my migraines, but they all but stopped right around the same time I cut the processed foods and started exercising, so I like to believe that it has helped.
Thanks again! I really appreciate your comments and interest :)
